Identifying changes and variation sources.

Welcome to the TeraSigma consulting newsletter. In this issue we present a summary minimum instrumentation and calibration procedures, recommended by FAA in its AC43-207, to perform Engine Test Cell Correlations.  Also, we explore the CUSUM chart, an auxiliary tool for Statistical Process Control.

FAA, in its Advisory Circular AC43-207, describes its recommended process to correlate Jet Engine Test Cells. In order to perform it correctly, this document provides advice regarding the minimum instrumentation necessary that the test facility should have. Also states the need to calibrate every single instrumentation set right before the correlation runs. A summary of such recommendations is presented in this newsletter

Our second topic is CUSUM charts, a Statistical Process Control tool that is auxiliary to identify changes in trends that are statistically significant. It is a complement of other SPC tools, such as EWMA. By using both tools together, the analysis engineer gets significant information to identify changes in trends, but with enough information to identify between normal random variation and real shifts in the observed performance.
