Open Innovation Models

Big organizations use around 5-25% of their internal R&D efforts/patents and these assets are lying on the shelf providing to the owner/sponsor no benefit of it.

Actual market trends are reducing product lifecycle due to the increasingly rapid product development.
This increases the cost of companies internal development cost to keep pace of competitors. By looking for "external" help, companies can reduce their development cost, speed the process and keep with the market by increasing their revenues diversifying the cash flow sources.

The external help can develop the organization's patent "leftovers" in ways the sponsor company didn't thought in the beginning.

Why this outcome is different from what original owner’s thought? Different companies have different assets looking/approaching to the situation/solution in a different way.
